Contemporary - Ian Houston
Born in Gravesend, Kent 1934, Ian went on to Study music at Royal College of Music, London and then part-time studies in painting at St Martin’s School of Art. In 1956 he began Exhibiting in London, where he met Edward Seago, who provided on-going training. Ian's first solo exhibition was at Mandell's Gallery, Norfolk in 1974. After this he bought the sea-going Thames Spritsail Barge “Raybell”(and subsequently gained Master’s Certificate) in order to study sea, weather and traditional sail in action.
Ian Houston’s paintings have been exhibited regularly in London and in the UK since 1956 and world wide since 1970 including USA, South Africa ,Australia and Hong Kong. Paintings in private and corporate Collections including:
HM The Queen, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, The Australian Government, The State Bank of South Australia, Barclays Bank plc., Batey Burn - Hong Kong, Carter Allen Holdings plc., Mercury Asset Management, Norwich Union, Robert Fleming Holdings Ltd. and The Usher Gallery -Lincoln.
