John Cockayne
After a few years in retail store management, John Cockayne established a small business in classic veteran and vintage car conservation and repair. This involved hands on working in wood, metal and natural materials and developed his interest and experience in re-creating objects in three dimensions. As a relaxation and to satisfy his creative drive, he attended tutored courses on Wood and Stone Carving, this developed into a consuming hobby and he built a home studio.
Since the turn of the century and retirement, John has created a body of work in his distinctive style, which seeks to capture the grace and controlled energy of ballet dancers and sports men and women. Most recently, field sports have provided inspiration for his work, which captures movements of the body in sculptured planes and the control and dynamic energy in the scale and nature of the forms.
