Contemporary - Naomi Clements-Wright
Naomi studied fine art at Newcastle University and art history at Oxford University. On graduating she painted and exhibited extensively while earning a living as a newspaper designer in London. In 1995, as her art career took off, she began to paint full-time, regularly using Heatherleys School of Art in Chelsea for its life classes. She now lives in Norfolk, working full-time as an artist. She is busy doing portrait and landscape commissions, alongside her own work, which includes still life’s, nudes and interiors.
Her study of art history has had a profound influence on her work. Her greatest inspirations are the Dutch and Spanish masters, especially Pieter de Hooch, Velasquez and Goya. More recently the atmosphere and quiet domesticity of Hopper, Hammershoi and Bonnard have been hugely influential. Not forgetting Thomas Eakins and Sargent.
Naomi tries to capture the depth and beauty of the Old Masters, within contemporary settings and subjects. Living in the open countryside of Norfolk, she mines a rich source of colour and light for her still life paintings.
Her many exhibitions include: New English Art Club, Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Royal Society of Portrait Painters, BP Portrait Award and Discerning Eye.
