Contemporary - Susan Brown

Susan Brown is a painter from the North of England. She paints many different subjects: theatrical and musical scenes, still life, landscape and most particularly architectural subjects.

After studying design in Leeds, Susan started as an interior designer and began to take an interest in architecture and architectural illustration. She specializes in painting buildings both in England and abroad and her work features prominently in a number of private and public collections.

Susan Brown has participated in numerous group exhibitions including the Royal Academy, the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Watercolour Society and the New English Art Club. In 1994 she was artist in residence at the York Early Music Festival.

Susan Brown's work has also won her recognition at the Laing Art Competition and the Hunting Art Prizes and she was a winner at the Singer & Friedlander/ Sunday Times Watercolour competition. Her work has been selected for exhibition at the Discerning Eye exhibitions in London from 2001 and she won The Penrose Purchase Prize at The Discerning Eye Exhibition in 2005.

Her watercolour style is unique and innovative. She manages to handle her subjects in a spontaneous manner, creating bold lively images but retaining absolute confidence and control over her medium.
