Steven has never been a person to compromise his work. Always honest in his portrayal of the subject whether it be a large canvas or a small pastel study, there is always integrity of the subject. His technique is highly competent in whatever medium he chooses, but always with a distinctive style never to be mistaken for another’s work. With all this talent there is more: in Steven’s depiction of his subject - a sunset at the end of the day with distant lights of a home, or clearing mist gently revealing the landscape with a lone figure approaching the brow of a hill - there is always a sense of spirituality. There is something more than first appears. Still waters run deep.
