Gillian Allard

Gillian Allard is a photographic artist and educator from Suffolk, UK, renowned for her compelling storytelling. With a background in photojournalism and a Master’s degree from the Royal College of Art, she brings a unique perspective to her work. In 2017, Allard won the Sky Arts Master of Photography, a prestigious television competition held in Rome.

My practice combines the photographic image with natural materials and surface. Often it is the object; its shape, tone and texture, that calls to mind the image I will later create or use.
My aim is to impose something of my own journey upon its surface, in an attempt to capture the stillness of a moment while recognising the nature of time and change in the life cycle of the object alongside my own evolution.
At the point of making, I can manage some type of control over how surface and image become as one. At the end of the process, I apply sealants to aid longevity, however a new environment will in itself bring about change overtime.
