Douglas Farthing

Douglas Farthing was born in Lowestoft, Suffolk and enlisted into the British Army Parachute Regiment in 1984, retiring in 2013. Douglas had no formal art training. He documented his experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan in sketchbooks and developed them into larger works in the studio. These earlier works have shaped the artist he is today observing the balance of beauty and tension in life. In 2015 he attended the drawing year at the Royal Drawing School. This has had a major influence on how Douglas works today.
